Casa Marianella's Adult House is a shelter for recently-arrived Latin American immigrants.

  • In addition to housing, we offer food, clothing, and English classes.
  • We serve an average of 400 residential clients yearly, and an additional 500 clients who receive food, clothing, or English classes.
  • Nightly occupancy is 21-28 people, and the average length of stay is 30 days.
  • The majority of persons leaving Casa Marianella are able to find stable housing upon their departure.
Casa Marianella residents often face a long and arduous journey to the United States, and they may be sick or injured. In any case, they are in need of the resources that Casa provides in order to find a way to make ends meet. Residents may find out about Casa's services any number of ways - from a referral from an immigration case manager, from an ex-resident they meet on the street, or from a member of the Austin community.

Despite their varied countries of origin, residents often share a common goal of working to provide for their families at home, whether their hope is to send a child to school, pay off debt, build a home, or buy a small business. Casa offers a safe and secure living environment that residents can return to at the end of a long day's work to rest and plan for their future. At the end of a month at Casa Marianella, residents usually move into rented housing with others they have met at the shelter. Over 60% of the residents move into safe housing upon their departure. Sometimes workers arrive and are injured while working. This can create an especially precarious situation for a worker without money whose employer is not insured. Casa Marianella frequently houses injured workers and helps them regain their health or return to their home.

Casa Marianella also serves as a resource for the larger immigrant community in several ways:
  • accepting and distributing donations of clothing and household goods
  • acting as a liaison between employers and workers from Casa (to announce jobs, help with wage claims, etc.)
  • helping political refugees seek asylum
  • referring those in need to appropriate organizations in and around Austin
