250 people gathered on April 17, 2019 for Casa Marianella’s annual gathering sponsored by the Board of Directors. We celebrated resettling 425 people, almost all of whom went into safe and secure housing.
In attendance were lawyers, ESL teachers, volunteers, donors, staff and friends of Casa Marianella. We were happy to honor Mama Sana Vibrant Woman for their outstanding work supporting women through the prenatal period, birth, and post partum. Mama Sana was founded by volunteers who are all themselves mothers of color. These women have done a wonderful job supporting the pregnant moms of Casa Marianella and Posada Esperanza of Casa Marianella, who are often alone in a new country at the time of their birth. We also gave out the Jorge Huerta Volunteer Award for the first time. Jorge was a strong Casa volunteer who died suddenly in 2018. The award went to volunteer staff member, Paula Blaha, her husband and volunteer handyman Bob Nelson, and their daughter and ESL teacher Camille Blaha-Nelson. They are a truly extraordinary family. This event is always a highlight of the year for Casa. We are so grateful for our fantastic community of supporters!
