14-year-old Rita lives in South Sudan. As part of the Unicef Poems for Peace program, she is sharing a poem she wrote in order to advocate for using poetry as a call for peace, not only in South Sudan, but everywhere.
Casa Marianella has and always will advocate for peace and the protection of children. Millions of children like Rita are growing up in conflict across the globe. With Poems for Peace by UNICEF, young people are given a platform to share their hopes and dreams for the future, highlighting “the extraordinary strength and courage of young people longing for a stable future.”
Without further ado…here is Rita’s beautiful poem, which you can also watch below.
Wow! For peace is not only seen but shared,
because it’s one extraordinary thing
that brings the world together and forever.
Peace, peace, peace, peace.
For peace is so beautiful, so powerful
that ends every war, anger, tribulations
among all nations of all generations.
Peace, peace, peace, peace.
For peace is all my country aims;
For the destructions and killings were all in our past
but we still pray and wish for
peace, peace, peace, peace.
You and I are the light of peace.
What else can I ask for because many died for peace.
Peace, peace, peace.
Peace is my sound, peace is my voice
Peace is my only choice.
Let’s all be capable and ambassadors of tomorrow,
for peace is free and patient,
indeed, like a child in need of a mother.
